The Fast and the Furious director is working on a Helldivers movie
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures, in partnership with PlayStation Productions, has commissioned Justin Lin, director of the Fast and Furious franchise, to direct the film adaptation of the co-op action film Helldivers. Lin will not only direct but also produce through his company, Perfect Storm Entertainment; Hutch Parker, Assad Kizilbash, and Carter Swan will also join the production team. The screenplay will be written by Gary Dauberman, the writer of projects such as It.
According to available information, the filmmakers intend to preserve the scale and combat-inspired atmosphere of the original game while focusing on the dramatic character arc and contemporary themes to give the story depth and relevance. The directorial team views Lin's lack of familiarity with gaming as a positive: according to the project's concept, this will help them explore the Helldivers universe from a different perspective and build a mythology accessible to a wider audience.

The film adaptation follows an announcement made in January 2025 and builds on the success of Arrowhead Game Studios' game series: the first installment was released in 2015, and the 2024 sequel quickly became a massive hit. The games are known for their dynamic cooperative gameplay and "soldiers versus alien threats" theme, creating a solid foundation for a cinematic interpretation in the vein of military science fiction.
Official production and release dates have not yet been announced; the project is in the script preparation and team building stages.
